My first successful card making attempt is a Welcome to the World card for a baby boy. I took a few steps back, and ignored the dies and embossing folders I have available to me, and focused on colour coordination, and getting the composition and matting and layering right.
For this card, I used standard white card stock, pre-folded to 5 x 5 inches. I chose this gorgeous duck toy paper as my pattern and decided to mat using a bright blue, since although the paper is predominantly baby blue, I was able to pick out bright blue in the design – on the sides of the trolleys the ducks are sat on.
On my first attempt with the giraffe stamp, I tried to colour him in, but it looked rubbish, so I decided to leave him black and white, and to add colour to the central design by using blue for the “welcome baby” text.
Finally I tied a tiny bow in some baby blue ribbon and attached it into the corner at a jaunty angle.
I’m really happy with how this card turned out, and it has taught be that simplicity can be the key to a really pleasing result.
