FMF 10/10/14: Care

I care about so many things but don’t seem to have the energy to do anything about it. I care about the environment – I want the world to be an OK place when Teddy grows up but when it comes to reducing waste in my own house, I don’t always do the right thing. I care about the NHS staying around – I don’t go on protest marches or attend picket lines to support striking workers or write letters to my MP. I just feel deflated every time the news tells me that the government are chipping away at services and budgets and so on. I care that people are dying in other countries because they don’t have enough food to eat – OK so I’m not sure I can actually do anything about that exactly, but surely I should be looking for someone to fund, someone who is helping that I can support the efforts of? I care that there are people that can’t read or write in my own country and area. I looked into volunteering to teach but so far I haven’t done anything about it. I don’t think I’m alone in not doing anything much about the things I care about.

[EDIT] I forgot to add… this post was written on the theme of “care” in 5 minutes, with limited self-checking and no edits. I enjoyed my first foray into Five Minute Friday

  1. No you are not alone. Your words describe a universal feeling of knowing what we should feel, but not being able to feel it on our own strength. Loved your honest, well-written post!

    1. Thank you! It’s my first time writing for FMF and I loved the feeling of just writing so I’ll be doing it again for sure!

  2. There is so much in the world to care about! For me, I’m focusing on starting in my own home, with my kids and my husband. 🙂 Glad I stopped by. I’m visiting from fmf today.

    1. Thank you for taking a look! It’s definitely true that starting at home is important. Maybe I’ll tackle the waste first 🙂

What do you think?
