Craft Room Chaos

Our second bedroom is my office and craftroom. I work from home full time, and so the most important element of the room is my desk and work setup, which is pretty nifty but takes up a lot of room. When we first moved in, I thought my craft room would be easy to set up, and a nice place to be. I started out with a blank canvas :

But I have a LOT of stuff, so very quickly it turned into this:

Which kind of worked for a bit, but then we started to dump stuff that we don’t want Teddy to get a hold of in there, and it started to feel cramped.

On August Bank Holiday Saturday, I felt like crafting, but the room looked like this:

And decided I needed a change. Further, I decided that that moment was exactly the right time to make that change!

Now it might seem blindingly obvious that moving furniture around is difficult with a one year old running around the house, but that didn’t seem to matter to me in that moment, I ploughed on with the move, stopping only to paint the side of the desk (utter madness) despite Darren’s pleas to wait until he was free to help me.

And then this happened.

Not a posed photo folks!

I boxed myself in and then broke the desk dragging it. Darren came into the room to find me like this, and wouldn’t help me until he’d taken a picture!

Unfortunately, even though Darren helped me resolve the furniture issue, and then sat in the room keeping me company until late into the evening, I didn’t finish sorting the room out, and we had visitors arriving the next day.

It now looks like a tidier version of this:

and I can now get to the table at least after putting this lot away:

I did find time to organise my up-cycling queue into a corner:

and gave the filing cabinet a makeover:

But generally, everything in the room with the exception of my office corner, is a mess. I long for a lovely, organised craft haven, decorated appropriately  with an air of organised cosyness (repetition of the word organised there was unintentional, but evidently it’s playing on my mind, so I’m leaving it in). There’s no budget at the moment for buying storage, so I’m just going to have to keep chipping away at it, until everything has a place.

Decoration-wise, the union flag tea-towel and bunting (both gifts) reduce the blandy-mc-bland-bland-ness of the room, but I have a long way to go before I will feel proud of it.

To be continued…

  2. I’m not sure a craft room is supposed to be neat and tidy. That may be why I’m not all that crafty – although I do try to be. I hope to have a craft room one day. Although, maybe I won’t ever want one….Right now, however, it’s simply not an option. 🙂

What do you think?
